Let’s Talk About Sex | True Love Waits

Russell Carrington Wilson is an American football quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks. He is a devoted christian and is currently in a relationship with the singer Ciara. In a recent interview with Pastor McPherson at San Diego’s Rock Church on Sunday Russell told the audience about his relationship with Ciara. The couple is practicing abstinence and is waiting until marriage to have sex. As I was watching the interview I started smiling from ear to ear as if he was talking about me. It made me blush to hear a man speak the words that I have always been waiting to hear from a guy.

If you’ve read my previous post you would know that I am virgin. Yes a full blown virgin not born again, didn’t have a sex one time and hated it, etc. I am a virgin. At the age of 23 it is hard being a virgin especially if all your friends aren’t virgins. So my love life is non existent at the moment. It is also hard being a virgin and trying to date at the age of 23. I meet a guy, we hit it off, I tell him I’m a virgin, he gets excited, and then I’m right back to where I started. It’s just frustrating to see that a man can’t be with you without sex.

The thing that I caught my eye about Russell is that he based the foundation of their relationship on God. He knew from the very beginning that nothing else mattered and whatever happens they need to make sure God is first. I guess dating is hard now because we tend to forget God when it comes to love. 1 John 4:8 says “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

I read some where that “No relationship is perfect, but the relationship will have less problems the more God is involved.” I honestly believe this is true. When the foundation of the relationship is based on a solid rock such as spirituality everything falls into place. Your relationship now has guidelines to follow.

Russell says in his interview that he told Ciara “What would you do if we took all that extra stuff off the table and do it Jesus’s way?” He’s talking about sex. Removing sex from their relationship. In today’s day and age sex is the foundation of many relationships but it shouldn’t be that way. A foundation of a relationship should be based on God. He wants us to find someone and live a life of happiness through his words. In a perfect world it wouldn’t be so hard but we live in world of sin where we are tempted each and every day.

The media portrays sex before marriage to be okay. Girl meets guy, they go on a date, they have sex and they end up together. Blah Blah Blah that’s not what really happens. How are we suppose to teach our children to stay pure and know that their bodies are a temple when the media is making it seem like sex fixes everything. That sex comes before love. Anyways all I am trying to say that it is so wonderful to see a man who has so much attention on him display the values of his relationship with the world. I hope other men are influenced by Russell WIlson’s decision and take a leap of faith and try things out Jesus’s way. Many people have relationships goals well I guess I think found mine. #russellandciara Well until next time.
